The School City of Hobart has taken much pride in preparing our students to be college and career ready upon graduation.
Throughout this school year, the corporation has surpassed great milestones to reach out to parents and students of all ages, from the elementary level up through high school students, with numerous events to keep students and parents prepared. Our mission for them is “Develop Your Plan, Purpose and Potential.”
Our guidance department at the high school is a stopping point for all of students who need resources to help them reach this mission.
Within this department is the Office of Student Placement where students meet to discuss college and/or career goals. The plan is designed by the student while our staff makes sure to assist them by making the plan as realistic as possible, along with helping them see that success takes hard work and a commitment to lifelong learning.
Hobart High School offers students a variety of career pathways to choose from as another way to help them advance their post-high school plans. Those pathways include: School of Human Services, School of Communication and Fine Arts, School of Health and Natural Sciences, School of Business Services and Information Technology, and School of Engineering and Industrial Technology. These career pathways include career cluster electives, many of which are dual college credit classes, to support the goals of our students.
This past April, 12th grade students took part in a Career & Workforce Expectations workshop hosted by the Office of Student Placement. Later that same day, all of our students and the public took part in a career fair.
With the support of Ready NWI, the Center of Workforce Innovations, and the Hobart Chamber of Commerce, students heard from key employers in Northwest Indiana on how to meet their expectations and land a job in mini breakout type sessions.
The School City of Hobart also has many partnerships within the community that allow us to meet the needs and goals of students as they embark on becoming productive citizens. Students are involved with work-based learning programs during the school day, and we have many who are ready to enter the workforce and learn from great employers in the community.
It is our goal to continue to add to our list of partners in the community so that students are exposed to the many career options available in Northwest Indiana.
We thank in advance those employers who are assisting our Brickies in becoming dynamic leaders as we aim to help students define their success at the highest levels possible!
