WHEN does Manufacturing Week happen? This year, National Manufacturing Day falls on Friday, October 2, 2015. However, events are occurring the entire week of September 28th - October 2nd. WHAT is Manufacturing Week? An annual event that occurs on the first Friday of October and the prior week, Manufacturing Week is an occasion during which Northwest Indiana manufacturers open their doors to showcase the potential of modern manufacturing and foster interest in manufacturing careers. WHERE do Manufacturing Week events occur? Manufacturing Week events occur at various manufacturing facilities and educational institutions across Northwest Indiana. If you are interested in having your school participate, we can help by connecting you with any of the following: A tour of a manufacturing facility in your area Having a manufacturing company representative speak to your students about the industry and careers in manufacturing Instructional activities and videos that would help career interest WHY is there a Manufacturing Week? Modern manufacturing environments are commonly thought of as dark, dangerous factories designed for low-skilled workers. Manufacturing Week addresses this misperception by giving manufacturers an opportunity to open their doors and show, in a coordinated effort, what manufacturing really is today: Manufacturing is technologically advanced, with ample use of automation, 3-D printing, robots, and screen technology. The annual average salary of manufacturing workers is more than $77,000. Manufacturers have the highest job tenure in the private sector. 90 percent of manufacturing workers have medical benefits. WHO should attend Manufacturing Week events? Manufacturing Week events are meant for anyone who is curious about modern manufacturing and who would like to know more about what happens in modern-day manufacturing facilities. Audiences include students, parents, educators, media, civic leaders, and local communities in general. WHERE are Manufacturing Week events already occurring? There are currently 30 Manufacturing Week events planned in the seven county region of Northwest Indiana. Locations of such events are listed below by county.
